Have you ever told your friends and family how awesome a movie you just saw was?  Me too.  I remember.  It was T2: Judgement Day.  It was fantastic!  I mean any movie with ‘Ah-nold’ crashing through buildings is a winner, but this was really good.  I told my friends about it, I told my mom (yes, I got a spanking; it was Rated R but I couldn’t resist! ), I told my brothers, I told my cat, I told my dog, I told… everybody!  And my enthusiasm for this film was all very spontaneous.  I’d felt so jazzed about what I had seen that I couldn’t help but share it with other people.

Now this won’t come as a surprise, but Hollywood did not pay me a DIME to promote their movie to my friends and family.  (James Cameron, I’m waiting for my check!)  I mean, why would they?  They’re big, scary Hollywood, and they don’t owe me nothin’ for running around telling people about how AWESOME! Terminator 2 was…… or do they?

I mean, what if the next time you saw a movie you really liked, one you couldn’t help but talk up to your friends, you could get paid for it???

Is that possible?  Sheeh!  Does Hollywood even do that?

The Hitchhiking Movie was a crowning achievement for 11 Visions.  It was our first feature film; it had spunk and spontaneity and realism and grit.  People loved it; they told us so.  If you haven’t seen it yet, check it out here.  After our first theater screening, many came up to us and bought DVDs.  I remember their comments:  ”Great,” and, “I can’t believe you guys actually did that,” and “I’m gonna tell my sister about this movie!”  I remember wanting to thank our lovely fans in some way.  What if there was a way I could pay them for spreading the good word about our movie? I thought.  What if?  What if I could give them cash for their already enthusiastic endorsement of our movie!!  I mean, they loved the movie and they’re gonna talk to their “sister” and “Aunt Jane” and “neighbor Bob” about it anyway.  So why don’t I pay them for the referral????

This was an awesome idea, I thought to myself.  But how the heck do you pay someone for something like that?  I certainly didn’t get paid a lick for shouting the praises of The Terminator.

Enter the Internet

Now there is a way to get paid for your enthusiastic endorsements.  The internet has changed everything for the movie business!  Especially for independent filmmakers like us who market online.  The internet has allowed us the opportunity to pay YOU every time someone buys a movie that you have recommended.

How?

Simple.  It’s called an affiliate program and all the cool kids are doing it.  Well, the cool kids and us.  Here’s how it works.  You just register and you’ll get a link you can put on your website or send to your friends via email.

If you clicked on that last link it took you to our Hitchhiking Movie Page.  But here’s the cool part:  When you sign up with the affiliate program, you get a personalized link that, when clicked, will take your friend or family member to the Hitchhiking Movie Page and track the fact that it came from you!

That means every time someone clicks on your link and buys a movie, you get paid a percentage!  A little company called E-junkie tracks it all and records how many sales you’ve made.
